Oriental lilies are hybrids between two types of lilies, Lilium auratum and Lilium speciosum. While they are a bit more difficult to grow than asiatics, they are spectacular in the garden!

Orientals are summer bloomers (unless you wish to force them earlier in a pot, which is easy to do!) They grow easily in areas from Zone 4-9.  Orientals are generally very fragrant and make wonderful cut flowers.

The first Oriental lily cross was logged as made in 1869 by American horticulturist Francis Parkman. Full grown some orientals can grow bloom flowers as large as 10-12 inches.

Orientals come in shades of white, pink and red, and often have raised spots on the inside of the petals called papilliae. The are wonderful flowers to bring in your homes and are often grown by florists to use used in wedding bouquets or arrangements.
